France Soir opened its doors in 1986 in full French Style, bringing Gallic air to South Yarra. This noisy, narrow sleek, well mirrored Parisian Style bistro has become an institution not only to Australian's but to many overseas visitors.
The food here is simple and unpretentious with some favourites, such as oysters opened at the bar, marinated salmon, steak with bearnaise sauce & chips, and creme brulee (as good as Paris-if not better). Special dishes appear daily written in large french white scrawl on the mirrors.
French waiters provide fast , professional service, welcoming you at all times of the night - the kitchen is open till midnight. It is always busy with casually dressed locals popping in for a quick bite to eat on their way home from work, to the highly fashionable, entertaining international guests, to the post theatre supper crowd later in the evening.
With the owner Jean Paul Prunetti being as passionate about wine as he is France Soir has won several national wine list awards for the large "bible" it offers containing a choice from over 1200 French and Australian Wines. The wines are kept in an impressive climate controlled cellar ensuring optimum condition at all times.
With these ingredients, close your eyes and you could be in Paris!
As France Soir is so popular it is wise to make a booking.
